Seed Seats

This artwork in Texas Tech University's extensive collection  is inspired by seed pod skeletons that fall from the adjacent trees, that is, the wood structure left after the long brown pods decay.  People become part of the art visually when they sit in the benches--are people born from the pods or are they altering nature? The surrounding extensive cotton fields are based on genetically altered seeds and this art embodies questions about the situation.  2010. Each bench of powder coated steel, stone, and concrete measures 5 x 7 x 2 ft.
