The 40-foot-high sculpture of figures riding prairie and wheat grasses serves as a gateway to Lafayette, Colorado, representing people being part of nature and the diversity of residents and natural species. It is located on the Medtronic campus along a state highway and was funded equally by Medtronic and the city.
The sculptor hired Arapaho/Shoshone Sarah Ortegon, a Native American artist, to design the motif for the sandstone base wall. It is a timeline of events in the locale. It adds a historical context for the overall piece and anchors the airy grasses.
