  "Columns of Light"
     Community Colleges of Colorado
     at Lowry Campus, Denver

Sandstone, aluminum, plants and powder-coated roof frame. April 2003.

This sculpture was designed to connect two distant buildings in an artful way.   The artist's sandstone columns are spread out to use the space creatively, starting from a single, special column with interior sunlight to a trellis group and finally to a group that forms a covered seating area.   There, the artist's roof structure feeds rain water to plantings, responding to the arid climate. The columns also deal with a theme of enlightenment, using light and the traditional columns found on libraries and colleges, as metaphors.   The columns stand 10 feet high over a   200 x 160 ft. area.
